The graduates of the English Language Education Department at Universitas Islam Indonesia are prepared to become a professional English Teacher at various education levels. The graduates who take Teaching English for Young Learners (TEYL) as their concentration are qualified to teach children at kindergarten and elementary levels. The graduates are also well prepared to become English teachers at Junior High Schools and Senior High Schools because they have learned various compulsory teaching subjects such as TESOL Methodology, TESOL Materials Development, Teaching Reading and Writing, Teaching Listening and Speaking, Microteaching, and internship programs which require students to practice their teaching skills in real public or private schools.
Besides having the opportunity to become English teachers in formal education sectors, the graduates of the English Language Education Department at Universitas Islam Indonesia are also having the opportunity to become English tutors/instructors in non-formal sectors such as university language centers or other private language institutions.
Furthermore, the graduates who take English for Specific Purposes (ESP) as their concentration are able to teach English in various professional sectors such as Job Training Institutions and Vocational Schools to teach specific English subjects; English for Hotel Staff, English for Hospitality, English for Cruise Ship Staff, English for Nursing, and others.
BIPA stands for Bahasa Indonesia untuk Penutur Asing which means Indonesian Language for foreigners. The graduates of English Language Education Department at Universitas Islam Indonesia are able to teach Indonesian Language to foreigners because during their time as students, they are provided with BIPA course and BIPA teaching practice program in Australia. Currently, becoming a BIPA teacher is considered as one of the most promising careers because they can promote and teach Indonesian language and its culture in other countries.
Beside focusing on teaching skills, English Language Education Department at Universitas Islam also focuses on increasing students’ English proficiency. Thus, the graduates have the opportunity to become translators and interpreters. During their study, they learn various courses such as translation, public speaking and interpreting. Moreover, being a translator and interpreter has many opportunities to work both at home and abroad. Translators can also work independently (freelance) or join an institution.

Through the TESOL Material Development course, the graduates learn to design teaching materials that suit students’ needs. Currently, the careers as practitioners and textbook writers are quite promising due to the increasing needs of people to learn English. In addition to being textbook writers, the graduates also have the opportunity to write supporting textbooks for the national exam preparation and other English tests because they have learned in Language Assessment courses during their study period.
Another career opportunity for graduates of the English Language Education Department at Universitas Islam Indonesia is to become a freelance media writer and editor of online and offline media at both home and abroad. The graduates have the opportunity to become contributors and editors of mass media because during their study period they have learned various grammar and writing courses such as English Grammar for Written Discourse, Paragraph Writing, Essay Writing, Argumentative Writing, and Academic Writing.
In addition, the graduates also have the opportunity to become education content creators, work in education or language start-up companies, or become UI/UX writers whose scope of work includes writing the words that are often used in digital products.
